For I was hungry

and you gave Me

something to eat;

I was thirsty

and you gave Me

something to drink;

I was a stranger

and you took Me in;

I was naked

and you clothed Me;

I was sick

and you took care of Me;

I was in prison

and you visited Me.

Matthew 25:35-36

Words of Wisdom

From Families Like Yours

For those beginning the adoption process.

   A cultural difference to be prepared for is that Ukrainians are not in a hurry to get things done.  Not that this is a bad, necessarily, they seem to trust that if it didn't get done today it will get done later.  It is not that they are lazy, just more relaxed about when things get done.  We also noticed that they were not in a hurry to give us updated information, so you may need to expect to have to contact your facilitator for updates.

For those who have brought children home.

   One piece of advise we followed, and are so glad we did, was to give our child chores and expectations right away - taking into consideration what the child is ready to do.  We did not let poor behavior slide because we felt sorry for our him.  We let him know what our expectation were and held him to them.  We believe that this has helped him tremendously in his adjustment to his new American life.
